Picking Primary Care

Quality Primary Care Providers (PCPs) and Primary Dental Providers (PDPs) for You and Your Family
A primary care provider or PCP is the main doctor that manages your medical care in non-emergency situations. When you first join CareFirst CHPDC, you will be asked to choose a primary care provider. If your current PCP is an enrollee of CareFirst CHPDC, you would select that doctor. If not we have a comprehensive provider locator that includes services, office locations, hours of operation, and telephone numbers.
Your Primary Dental Provider (PDP)
With CareFirst CHPDC’s dental program, you also have the option of selecting a Primary Dental Provider or PDP. A list of these providers can be found in provider directory as well.
Tips for Selecting a PCP or PDP
- Chose a doctor who is close to your home or work.
- Try to select a doctor who can send you to the hospital you want. (This can be found in the provider directory)
- You may want to visit or call a provider’s office to get a general feel for the doctor’s availability and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
- Ask friends, neighbors, relatives, or coworkers if they or someone they know can recommend one of our providers.
If you need help or if you have any questions, you can contact us at (202) 821-1100 or (855) 326-4831.
